My week from Wendy's Quilts and More

Another week has passed and I still haven't managed to get back to my sewing machine.  I have been  cross stitching in the evenings though, and I've finished the First Day of Christmas by Hello from Liz Mathews.

I still need to turn it into a 3D tree, but at the moment it's just waiting on the finishing pile.  I love the linen I chose for this one - it's 32 count Wichelt linen in a lovely pale green.

Cyclone Gabrielle passed over New Zealand on Monday and Tuesday and the Hawke's Bay suffered terrible flooding ...

Third Day of Christmas Tree from Wendy's Quilts and More

I've finished another Christmas decoration in my #12in22ornamentstitchalong .

This is the Third Day of Christmas by Liz Mathews.  I bought my pattern from Stitch Witches in Dunedin.  You can buy PDFs from Liz Mathews Etsy shop, but I like the printed colour version, so I  bought from Stitch Witches.

I haven't stitched the first or second days of Christmas yet, because I like the third day the most, so I just started with the third day of Christmas.

The polystyrene base that mine is sitting on isn't the real base yet, but it's all that I ...

Twelve Days from From the Strawberry Patch...

As we close out those twelve days of Christmas it's a good time to reflect on the holidays and get back to that guiding word and how I plan to respect it in 2022. I did receive two Christmas gifts for use in the sewing room that I had asked for from Mr. Goodneedle, I'm eager to try them out and will report on them after the next few days; those will be spent taking Christmas down and packing it

Day 12

Welcome to the last day of my 12 Days of Christmas. Today's project is another adorable snowman!  I put mine on a Buffalo Plaid tea towel from Dunroven House. But this sweet snowman can be used for so many different projects! Make a special pillow, apron, mug rug.... so many possibilities! Some supplies I like to use and have on hand in my sewing room for this project included my applique scissors from Olfa, Flexifuse, brown and white thread, and a healthy supply of scrap fabric for the applique design. To make my Mitten Snowman you will ...

Day 11

It finally snowed a little here in Minnesota, really just a dusting, but it snowed! It helped brighten my Christmas spirit as I wrapped some gifts today. Our Christmas tree isn't as bare underneath now. It's starting to feel a little bit like Christmas. Hubby and I delivered gift bags with gnomes to all our neighbors. Belvedere enjoyed the walk and made sure to bellow, 'happy holidays' in only a way that a basset hound could. I then popped into my sewing room and worked on today's project. A sweet snowman. It's appliqued using ...

Day 10

For day 10, I have an adorable mini quilt! It's called Snowman Delivery and features Belvedere taking the snowmen on ride in grandpa's red truck. He's at it again sneaking off the farm with grandpa's truck. I'm sure he's just taking his friends out to see some Christmas lights. What's great about this new mini quilt is that you can leave it on display all winter long. It took me an afternoon to make. I sat and stitched listening to some Christmas music drinking my peppermint latte. It was a very ...

12 Days of Christmas, Day 9 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Day 9

One of my favorites is meat pie that my grandma used to make around the holidays. My mom now makes them and will give each of use girls one for the holidays. My grandma and great grandma used to make meat pie for Christmas Eve for when the family came home from midnight mass. Our recipe originated from my great grandma who was French Canadian. Meat pie is also referred to as Tourtière. It was a holiday tradition from my mom's childhood. I helped mom make them a couple of times, so I wrote down the ...

12 Days of Christmas, Day 8 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Day 8

I have another project that's sure to be comforting. It's another quick and easy project that would be a great beginner sewing project. So if you are mentoring a new stitcher, this is a fun project to introduce them to. It's an easy square scarf with a frayed edge.

This has been the year of neighborhood walks and outdoor hikes with our lockdowns here in Minnesota. I find this scarf warm and cozy. A great comfort item that would also make a wonderful gift. It's fashionable too! I wear mine around the house when ...

12 Days of Christmas Day 7 from Quilt Doodle Doodles

Day 7

I was thinking this time of year we are all stressed and tied up in knots. Many of us are putting in long days sewing those special handmade gifts so today’s project is something that you can make for yourself, or make a bunch and give them as gifts. A heating pad that can be warmed up in the microwave is a wonderful item to have handy to sooth those sore muscles. I’ve had these on my to do list forever, I wanted to make one for myself for when my neck gets sore from stitching ...

Day 6

I live very close to a ski slope named Buck Hill. When my boys were growing up they spent a lot of time there skiing and snowboarding. I drove them there on snow days so that they could meet up with friends and enjoy the new fresh snow with their friends. One of the things that I enjoy the most is the sledding hill. If you ever want to feel like you're five years old, go sledding! I love it because at the base of the hill there's a hot cocoa booth that sells warm cookies ...

Day 4

This year I feel more Grinchy than Cindy Lou Who-ish.... often muttering " I must find some way to stop Christmas from coming.... is Christmas coming?" I'm just crabby about limited to no gatherings so it's not feeling like Christmas. No Christmas parties.... no snow on the ground, it melted a couple weeks ago. Boo hoo hoo hoo..... Hubby and I took the dogs walking last night and enjoyed the Christmas lights. That was fun and felt normal. I've been doing a lot of online shopping and have to admit it's nice, but I do ...
